Recycled water will be used to drought-proof the Mt Martha Golf Course all year round.

Mornington Peninsula Shire, together with local company Just Irrigation, will design, supply and construct a recycled water pipeline and pump. More than 2.5km of pipeline will connect the South Eastern Outfall to the public course via a complex pumping station. The public course will receive access to utilise about 80 megalitres of recycled water, which is water well saved.

Constructing the pipe will require boring under Nepean Highway. Just Irrigation has completed many similar projects and has both expertise and experience to build recycled water projects.

Mayor, Cr Anne Shaw, said that Mt Martha Golf Course has suffered because of the prolonged drought during the summer months. “This project will ensure the course stays in good condition throughout the whole year. We’ll also use less fertiliser and importantly, reduce the water piped out at Gunnamatta.

“Water is one of our most precious resources and drought in Australia has made us realise that we have to get smarter about the way we use it. Hopefully theis project will encourage others to undertake sustainable water practices, replacing potable water with recycled water wherever possible”, she said.
